Tommy was an active and merry enthusiast who first showed up in the early 80s or perhaps the late 70s. As he lived in Malmö he was mainly active in Angmar, the Tolkien society there; his guided tours of Copenhagen after the yearly Tolkien camp in the Beechwood were very popular. He quickly became a good friend.
Tommy was a true Tolkien enthusiast but also interested in fantasy and science fiction in general. He attended many SF conventions, not only in Sweden - he shared a room with me at a British Eastercon and he worked around the clock at last year's Worldcon in Helsinki. He also spread joy in the relatively recently revived Malmö fandom. He loved music and he was a talented photographer.
Tommy led a bit of a Bohemian life. He had a home, but when he was younger he was often unemployed so he moved around a lot, among other things for temporary photo gigs. He often ended up in Stockholm. He was prone to asking whether he could stay for a night and then he remained for weeks... but it was rarely that we minded.
In later years his life stabilised and he got a job in Copenhagen, which sadly meant fewer visits to the Swedish capital and we didn't see as much of each other any longer. But he always kept in touch, mostly by texting, and never forgot about his friends. The last time I met him was in Helsinki, before he was taken away from us, much too early at the age of 56.
Tommy was not like other people, but he had an enormous heart and I will miss him, his broad - sometimes difficult - southern dialect, his laughter, his kindness and his friendship.
