Joe Haldeman, the author of several novels and collections, with five Hugos and five Nebulas to his name, has accepted to be one of our guests of honor.

Joe and his wife are regarded as among the nicest professionals in the American science fiction world, and we're delighted to get them over here.

Haldeman was born in Oklahoma in 1943 and grew up in Puerto Rico, New Orleans, Washington, D. C., and Alaska. These days he and his wife Gay live in Florida and during the Fall semesters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Joe teaches writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Joe Haldeman

Joe graduated with a Bachelor of Science in astronomy from the University of Maryland in 1967. After that he was drafted and spent a year in Vietnam as a combat engineer. After being released back to civilian life he commenced graduate work in mathematics/computer science, but dropped out to be a writer. In addition to being an MIT professor he has also taught creative writing at Michigan State (Clarion), Clarion West Seattle, SUNY Buffalo, Princeton, University of North Dakota, Kent State, and University of North Florida. At college he has also taught astronomy, maths, and English, and coached a fencing team. Moreover, he has taught classical guitar at a music store!
