FAQs

Location and travel
The 2014 Steampunk Festival takes place June 27th – 29th at the Swedish Railway Museum in Gävle, about one hour from Stockholm. If the weather permits, we will also use the museum’s outdoor areas. The museum is officially open from 10am to 4pm, but for members the festival will continue until late at night. The festival starts at 5 pm on the 27th and ends at 5pm on the 29th.

The museum is not far from central Gävle. You can find directions and location plans here.

Gävle is easy to reach by car and train (even from Arlanda, for those of you who come by plane). It is possible that we will be able to organize a collective journey with a steam engine from Stockholm; more about this at a later time.

No, there will be an alternative programme for those who do not want to take part in the steampunkball.

Do I need some special clothes?
No, even though many people like to dress up, not everybody finds this amusing. One can enjoy steampunk in many different ways. Come as you feel. If you want to join in without spending lots of money, wear a hat or a waistcoat with some small accessory.

Will there be events in English?
Yes, our guests of honour are from other countries, and we also hope to welcome many visitors from abroad. There will be events for those of you who do not speak Swedish almost all of the time.

May I bring my own food and beverages?
Yes, that is okay. Alcohol, however, is not allowed. You will also be able to buy some food on site.
