Get dressed for the ball

We would prefer that all guests wear something that they consider to be both suitable and elegant, but that does not mean you have to be boring or discreet! Dress to impress, and don’t be afraid to show off your fantastic accessories. Whilst we will not deny anyone entry on grounds of dress, it is expected that participants make an effort. Together we will create a wonderful and memorable ball experience for everyone.

Some thoughts and suggestions/notes:

Black tie is obviously a good choice, especially if combined with interesting accessories.

Long and low-cut dresses are welcome, but other versions are also fine. Especially if you can think of an alternative-historical scenario where your style of dress could have become a standard model of dress for important occasions.

You are welcome to wear hats of all kinds indoors. If you have long hair you are welcome to use the ball as an excuse to arrange it in a discreet or spectacular fashion, whatever you prefer. Please put some thoughts into accessories like watches, watch parts, evening bags and such.

Gloves are beautiful to wear while having your welcome drink and during the dance, but are impractical when eating and so should be able to be removed during the dinner.

National costumes are welcome. They do not have to be particularly authentic – especially if you can explain why history took a different turn and resulted in your particular version becoming the traditional national costume.

Uniforms are very suitable, and odd or self-made uniform combinations that signify creative and imaginative positions of responsibility are encouraged.

Ladies in suits and gentlemen in dresses are also welcome to attend.

For footwear we recommend the most elegant shoes which still allow you to dance without crippling, unbearable pain.
